| ATT\&CK Tactic       | Credential Access (TA0006)                   |
| ATT\&CK Technique    | OS Credential Dumping: DCSync (T1003.006)    |
| Severity             | Informational                                |

### Description

A GetNCChanges replication request was observed that requests all changes for an object (USN starting from 0 with no up-to-date vector), which may indicate an attempt to dump credentials.

### Attacker's Goals

* An attacker can abuse replication to dump credentials from the Domain Controller.

### Investigative actions

* Check for a suspicious process on the initiator.
* Check for users that logged-in to the actor ip and investigate their actions.
* Check for indicators of compromise on the actor ip.

Possible DCSync attack using Impacket-like tool

**Synopsis**

| Field             | Value                                     |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| ATT\&CK Tactic    | Credential Access (TA0006)                |
| ATT\&CK Technique | OS Credential Dumping: DCSync (T1003.006) |
| Severity          | Medium                                    |

**Description**

A GetNCChanges replication request was observed that requests all changes for a single object, with parameters matching a known Impacket secretsdump DCSync signature.

**Attacker's Goals**

* An attacker can abuse replication to dump credentials from the Domain Controller.

**Investigative actions**

* Check for a suspicious process on the initiator.
* Check for users that logged-in to the actor ip and investigate their actions.
* Check for indicators of compromise on the actor ip.

| Severity          | Low                                       |

**Description**

A GetNCChanges replication request was observed that requests all changes for a single object, with parameters matching a known Mimikatz lsadump::dcsync signature.

**Attacker's Goals**

* An attacker can abuse replication to dump credentials from the Domain Controller.

**Investigative actions**

* Check for a suspicious process on the initiator.
* Check for users that logged-in to the actor ip and investigate their actions.

Possible DCSync attack using unknown tool

**Synopsis**

| Field             | Value                                     |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------- |

| Severity          | Low                                       |

**Description**

A GetNCChanges replication request was observed with parameters that resemble known credential dumping tools, though the specific tool could not be identified.

**Attacker's Goals**

* An attacker can abuse replication to dump credentials from the Domain Controller.

**Investigative actions**

* Check for a suspicious process on the initiator.
* Check for users that logged-in to the actor ip and investigate their actions.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/analytics-alerts/alerts-by-name/possible-dcsync-attack.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
