## Impact

PostgreSQL can create a temporary file for actions such as sorting, hashing and temporary query results when these operations exceed *work\_mem*. The *log\_temp\_files* flag controls logging names and the file size when it is deleted. Configuring *log\_temp\_files* to zero (*0*) causes all temporary file information to be logged, while positive values log only files whose size are greater than or equal to the specified number of kilobytes. A value of *-1* disables temporary file information logging. We recommend you set the *log\_temp\_files* database flag for Cloud SQL PostgreSQL instances is set to zero (*0*). If temporary files are not logged, it may be difficult to identify potential performance issues caused by either poor application coding, or deliberate resource starvation attempts.

## How to Fix

*Resource:* google\_sql\_database\_instance

* *Arguments:* database\_version = "POSTGRES\_\* " settings::database\_flags: key:"log\_temp\_files", value: by default set to "-1" \[source,go]

***

resource "google\_sql\_database\_instance" "default" { name = "master-instance" database\_version = "POSTGRES\_11" region = "us-central1"

settings {

* database\_flags {
* name = "log\_temp\_files"
* value = "0" } } }

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/appsec-rules/iac-security/logging/appsec-gcp-56.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
