# Azure Firewall does not define a firewall policy misconfiguration detected in code

## Rule Details

| Category - Subcategory | Public Exposure - Ingress Controls |
| Provider               | AZURE                              |
| Severity               | MEDIUM                             |

## Impact

This rule verifies whether a firewall policy has been defined on the Azure platform. Not adhering to this rule could potentially expose a network to unauthorized access. This is dangerous because without a firewall policy, there aren't any rules that check the incoming and outgoing network traffic. As a result, this can potentially allow malicious users to access or disrupt services within the network. Hence, it is crucial to define a firewall policy to enhance security and protect the integrity of the network.

## How to Fix

*Resource:* azurerm\_firewall

* *Arguments:* firewall\_policy\_id

## To fix this issue, you need to define and associate a firewall policy with your Azure Firewall. \[source,go]

resource "azurerm\_firewall\_policy" "example" { name = "example" resource\_group\_name = azurerm\_resource\_group.example.name location = azurerm\_resource\_group.example.location

threat\_intelligence\_mode = "Alert" }

resource "azurerm\_firewall" "example" { name = "example-firewall" location = azurerm\_resource\_group.example.location resource\_group\_name = azurerm\_resource\_group.example.name

* firewall\_policy\_id = azurerm\_firewall\_policy.example.id

## ip\_configuration { name = "configuration" subnet\_id = azurerm\_subnet.example.id public\_ip\_address\_id = azurerm\_public\_ip.example.id } }

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/appsec-rules/iac-security/public-exposure/appsec-azure-219.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
