## Impact

For a user to access a Cloud Storage resource only one of the systems needs to grant the user permission. Cloud IAM is used throughout Google Cloud and allows you to grant a variety of permissions at bucket and project levels. ACLs have limited permission options, are used only by Cloud Storage, and allow you to grant permissions on a per-object basis. Cloud Storage has uniform bucket-level access that supports a uniform permissions system. Using this feature disables ACLs for all Cloud Storage resources.

Access to Cloud Storage resources is granted exclusively through Cloud IAM. Enabling uniform bucket-level access guarantees that if a Storage bucket is not publicly accessible, no object in the bucket is publicly accessible.

We recommend you enable uniform bucket-level access on Cloud Storage buckets. Uniform bucket-level access is used to unify and simplify how you grant access to your Cloud Storage resources. Cloud Storage offers two systems that act in parallel for granting users permission to access your buckets and objects:

* Cloud Identity and Access Management (Cloud IAM)
* Access Control Lists (ACLs).

## How to Fix

*Resource:* google\_storage\_bucket

* *Arguments:* uniform\_bucket\_level\_access is set to true, \[source,go]

***

resource "google\_storage\_bucket" "examplea" { name = "terragoat-${var.environment}" bucket\_policy\_only = true

* uniform\_bucket\_level\_access = true }

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/appsec-rules/iac-security/storage/appsec-gcp-29.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
