# Indicator field structure

Learn about the default fields for extended threat intelligence (XTI) indicators.

XTI indicator default fields are system fields created and managed by Cortex. These fields are displayed on the Indicators page and in indicator overview and details for all the indicator types that they are applicable to. Third party indicator fields are mapped to these default fields whenever possible. Any third-party indicator field that is not mapped to a default field is considered a custom field. This documentation describes the XTI indicator default fields.

XTI indicators are STIX Cyber-observable Objects (SCOs) based on the STIX 2.1 specifications. XTI supports the following indicator types:

* **Domain**: Represents a network domain name, similar to the STIX Domain Name object.
* **File hash**: Represents a single file hash using the SHA-256 algorithm.
* **IP address**: Represents an IPv4 address.
* **URL**: Represents a Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

The following table describes the fields available for all available indicator types.

* The **Field** column provides the name of the field displayed on the user interface.
* The **Indicator type** column indicates whether the field is available for all indicator types or for a specific indicator type only.
* The **XQL attribute** column matches the field to the corresponding attribute in the threat\_intel\_indicators XQL dataset.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cortex-xdr/detect-investigate-and-respond-to-threats/threat-management/extended-threat-intelligence/xti-indicators/indicator-field-structure.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
