# Cortex XDR agent supported platforms

Review Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile, and ChromeOS platforms supported by the Cortex XDR agent in Cortex XDR.

The Cortex XDR agent protects desktops, laptops, servers, cloud workloads, and mobile devices from a single console.

| Platform       | Support                                                                                                                                                  |
| -------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Windows | Workstations and servers, including supported VDI and Terminal Server environments |
| macOS          | Supported macOS releases                                                                                                                                 |
| Linux | Supported distributions, in Kernel Mode or User Space (eBPF) mode, and Kubernetes hosts |
| Android | Android 8 and later. Support for the newest Android releases requires a recent agent release. |
| iOS and iPadOS | Supported iOS and iPadOS releases. Some features, such as network isolation, require supervised devices. |
| ChromeOS | Chromebooks from 2019 or later, managed by Google Workspace, run the **Cortex XDR agent app for Android**. There is no native ChromeOS Cortex XDR agent. |

Exact supported versions depend on the Cortex XDR agent release. Always check the compatibility matrix before deployment:

* [Endpoint operating systems supported](https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/compatibility-matrix/where-can-i-install-the-cortex-xdr-agent/endpoint-operating-systems-supported)
* [Mobile operating systems supported with Cortex XDR](https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/compatibility-matrix/where-can-i-install-the-cortex-xdr-agent/mobile-operating-systems-supported-with-cortex-xdr)
* [Kubernetes platforms supported](https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/compatibility-matrix/where-can-i-install-the-cortex-xdr-agent/kubernetes-platforms-supported)

### Point-of-sale and specialized devices

Point-of-sale (POS) terminals and kiosks that run a supported Windows or Linux operating system can run the Cortex XDR agent like any other endpoint. Use security profiles and [host firewall rules](https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cortex-xdr-5.x/protect-your-endpoints/install-and-manage-endpoints/harden-endpoint-security/host-firewall) to lock down these devices. For network segments where you can't install an agent, ingest firewall logs to monitor traffic.

To deploy the Android app on Chromebooks, see [Deploy Cortex XDR Agent App for Android using an MDM](https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cortex-xdr-agent-android-guide/9.2/deploy-cortex-xdr-agent-app-for-android-using-an-mdm).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cortex-xdr/insights-and-tips-cortex-xdr/endpoint-and-cortex-xdr-agent-management/cortex-xdr-agent-supported-platforms.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
