# Incident deduplication in Cortex XSOAR

Deduplicate incidents using rules or playbooks in Cortex XSOAR 8.10 On-prem.

When ingesting incidents, you may ingest several incidents that are duplicated. Cortex XSOAR provides the following deduplication capabilities:

* Manual deduplication

  During an investigation, on the **Incidents** page, an analyst can manually deduplicate incidents. For more information, see [Incident management](/cortex-xsoar-8-on-prem/8.10/investigate-and-respond-to-threats/incidents-and-indicators-investigation/incident-management.md).
* Automatic deduplication

  | Pre-process rules | Set up pre-process rules to deduplicate incidents as soon as they are ingested into Cortex XSOAR. |
  | Playbooks | There are several out-of-the-box playbooks you can run to identify and close duplicate incidents. Alternatively, you can use these playbooks as the basis for customized de-duplication playbooks. For example, instead of automatically closing the duplicate incidents, an analyst can review the duplicated incidents. The Dedup - Generic v4 playbook Identifies duplicate incidents using the machine learning model (used mainly for phishing). For more information, see [Dedup - Generic v4](https://xsoar.pan.dev/docs/reference/playbooks/dedup---generic-v4). |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://cortex-docs.paloaltonetworks.com/cortex-xsoar-8-on-prem/8.10/configure-cortex-xsoar/incident-configuration/incident-deduplication-in-cortex-xsoar.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
